MVCAA Offers 20 $1,000 Scholarships
 
Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, Inc., the anti-poverty organization serving Herkimer and Oneida Counties, with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, has created a $1,000 scholarship for 2010 high school graduates living in Oneida or Herkimer counties.
 
Applications will be available from high school counselors after Mar. 8, or by downloading them from our website, www.mvcaa.com after that date.
 
Applicants for the scholarship need not attend a high school in the two counties, but must be a resident of Oneida or Herkimer counties.
 
The scholarship may be applied toward academic and personal expenses of a student attending two- and four-year public, private, non-profit, or for-profit colleges and universities, or other accredited institutions of postsecondary academic education awarding certification in the United States.
 
The criteria for the award of the scholarship are financial need; personal qualities, including a strong work ethic, good character and responsibility, and participation in school, employment, or community activities. The applicant must have maintained a grade average of 75 percent for the senior year.
 
Applications must be received no later than Apr. 15, 2010. The awards will be announced on May 7, 2010 and will be presented at the MVCAA Board of Directors meeting on May 24, 2010.
