Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, Inc. will present $1,000 scholarship checks to 20 area students at 4 p.m. Monday in the agency board room, 9882 River Road, Utica.
MVCAA Executive Director Amy Turner said the scholarships were funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). “Education will be a cornerstone of the nation’s economic recovery, and these scholarships will help give students a competitive edge in the job market of the future,” she said.
“We are best known for preparing our youngest children for public school in our Head Start pre-school program,” Turner said, “and ARRA has given us the opportunity to reach out to young adults in much the same way as they begin their college careers.”
The MVCAA Board of Directors will host a reception for the scholars and their parents prior to the regular board meeting.
