The Coalition for Economic Justice, in partnership with Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, will hold the 2nd Annual Poverty Symposium and Community Champions Luncheon Monday, June 21 at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Partners are MVCAA, MVCC, United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area, Utica Safe Schools Healthy Students, Success Strategies, Catholic Charities, Oneida County NAACP, RCIL and Working Solutions.
Debbie Weinstein, Executive Director of the Coalition for Human Needs will be the keynote speaker at the poverty symposium, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon.
Dr. Charles Burns, DDS, of Utica will be honored as the Treva Wood Community Activist at the Community Champions luncheon starting at 12:30 p.m.
Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito, MVCC President Randall VanWagoner and MVCAA Executive Director Amy Turner will give the opening remarks for the symposium.
Programs include poverty report and local statistics, coalition reports, strategies for engaging the community in the voting process and the coalition’s “call to action” for the coming year.
Registration for the symposium is $10.
Luncheon cost is $20.
