MVCAA offers services in three general areas: child development, housing and family resources. Some of the specific programs provided by MVCAA include: Head Start, Early Head Start; Day Care; Weatherization; Rental Assistance; Lead prevention & education; Family Self-Sufficiency; Family Unification; Residential Emergency Services to Offer Repairs to the Elderly (RESTORE); Family Development; Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP); Foster Grandparent Program; Tutorial Intervention Program; Runaway & Homeless Youth and Street Outreach; and others.
MVCAA’s service area covers all of Oneida and Herkimer Counties. MVCAA has offices in Rome, Utica and Herkimer and operates 19 Head Start Centers in Boonville, Camden, Herkimer, Ilion, Little Falls, Rome, Sylvan Beach, Sauquoit, Utica, Waterville, West Winfield and Whitesboro/New York Mills. MVCAA’s Foster Grandparents Program also serves Madison County, as well as Oneida & Herkimer Counties.

Oneida County: Oneida County is the 16th largest county in New York State with a population of 235,469 people, 1.24% of the total population in the state. It is nearly one hundred miles west of the state capital of Albany and holds the upper reaches of the Mohawk River flowing eastward to the Hudson River. The County is also the site of streams flowing east to the Great Lakes, north to the St. Lawrence River and south to the Susquehanna River. The height of land in this east-west watershed divide is the site of the city of Rome. It is made up of 26 towns and 19 villages. There are 19 townships in Oneida County including 3 cities: Sherrill, Utica, and Rome. It has 15 public school districts.

Herkimer County: Herkimer County ranks 40th in the state and has a population of 64,427 people which is about .34% of the total population in the state. It borders the eastern side of Oneida County. Topographically, the county consists of three zones; the Mohawk River Valley which bisects the county’s southern quarter, the near uplands, about one thousand feet above the valley floor and the Adirondack highlands. It is comprised of 19 townships including one city, Little Falls. Although the village of Herkimer is not considered a city, it may be categorized as an urban area. Herkimer County has 11 public school districts.
