Statement on Violence in Charlottesville, VA
August 16, 2017

Washington, D.C.-August 16, 2017. Amid the turmoil that occurred in Charlottesville, VA, over the weekend, the Community Action Partnership in Washington, D.C., would like to express its sympathy and concern for the victims, their families, and those impacted by the violence that erupted.

Chief Executive Officer Denise Harlow said, "We are deeply troubled by what has happened in Charlottesville. We denounce the racism and anti-Semitism that was on display and do not tolerate or accept violence and hatred. The Partnership stands with all persons regardless of their socioeconomic background, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, or location."

As America's poverty fighting network, Community Action Agencies labor daily to dismantle barriers that stand in the way of economic security for America's families and communities. The Partnership admires America's cultural diversity and affirms that everyone has the right to human dignity and respect. We are guided by the Community Action Promise:

Community Action changes people's lives,

embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities,

and makes America a better place to live.

We care about the entire community,

and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other

The Community Action Partnership is the national membership association representing the nation's 1,000 local Community Action Agencies and State Associations.
