MVCAA Team Helps Bridge the Gap
The group 'Bridging the Gap' sponsored a walk with officers from the Utica Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff's Department and New York State Police. Participants started their walk on McVean Street and ended nearly 2.5 miles later on State Street. Organizers said the event was about promoting peace and acceptance of those who hold different views. MVCAA is a long-time advocate for creating and promoting community kinship and respect. MVCAA recently awarded the Utica City Police Department's Adopt a Police Officer Program the 2017 Community Builder Award at its 51st Anniversary Gala. Participating in the walk were: Evon Ervin, Deputy Director; Darlene Mack-Brown, Community Representative to the Board of Directors and past Board Chair; Simeon Bell; Zenobia Cole; Denise Coleman; Venice Ervin; Maureen Dunn Murphy.
